David Scott Larsen is a landscape and nature photographer based in Northern California. David patiently creates every one of his photos with the aspiration of capturing the natural beauty, interest and intrigue. David believes photographic art is meant to inspire and move the viewer. If one finds themselves pondering, relating to, or temporarily finding escape while viewing David's photos then the end goal has been achieved.
David grew up in the Rocky Mountain region of the United States. David spent much of his youth exploring the vast Rocky Mountain range and desert areas of Southern Utah and Arizona. David relocated to Northern California in 2002 and began seriously exploring and developing his passion for photography shortly after. On a trip to Death Valley during the rare "100 year" bloom in 2005 David stumbled upon the Mountain Light gallery in Bishop, California, of famed "late" nature photographer Galen Rowell. That experience forever changed David's perception of Nature Photography and the Natural World around us. After viewing Galen's work David realized what was truly possible for nature photography as an art form. He was so inspired by the awesome beauty and spirituality of Galen's photography that he has been committed to developing his own photographic techniques for capturing beautiful nature scenes ever since.
David has visited most of the top nature photography galleries in the Western United States and still places the Mountain Light gallery among his all time favorites.

Welcome, and thank you for viewing my web site and photography. The art of capturing the true beauty of nature as it is witnessed in person with all five senses is very challenging. Nothing compares to the experience of actually being there. I strive to replicate the grandeur and beauty of the natural scenes I capture as closely to the natural elements as possible. My perspective and composition are unique to the elements that define me as a person. To me, photography is not about where you are in the world, but how you see it.
There are many different techniques and equipment that are available in today's world of photography. Currently, I shoot with a digital camera all the time. My camera is the initial tool I use to capture the sketch and composition of the scene I photograph. My processes involve great patience, travel, expense and energy to scout out and capture the right elements, scenes and compositions for my photographs. I spend a great amount of time processing my photos in my own digital darkroom to fine tune, optimize and adjust contrasts, tonalities, colors, luminosity and various other elements in an attempt to re-create the natural scene as true to my own personal experience. My goal is essentially to invite you to see and feel what I experienced from my own perspective as if you were there with me. I am an intense individual who sees and feels things deeply. I believe these personal characteristics carry through in my work and appear in their own subtle and dramatic ways.
With the technology and equipment available today, I can't think of a more dynamic and exciting time to be a landscape and nature photographer! I also can't think of a more critical time to raise awareness of the limited pristine beauty still available in the natural world.
There is a peace and solace found in nature that is magic. No explanation is needed and nothing needs to be changed. It is perfect just as created. There is a certain freedom that is only found when you immerse yourself in nature. I have been very fortunate to have grown up and lived in areas so incredibly rich and vast in natural beauty. In my adult years traveling far distances to photograph nature I have come to the dire realization that future generations my not have such abundant experiences. This truly saddens me to think of. I am committed to documenting as much of the pristine magnificence of nature that I can while we still have it. I hope to share the beauty I find in this wonderful life on this amazing Earth so they may live on for generations to come.
Thanks for visiting!
